Asha M. Thomas, MD, FACP, FACE
Special Interest In: Nutrition, Bariatrics, Preventive Cardiology and Lipid Management.
Dr. Thomas received her degree in Medicine from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the Yale University School of Medicine, where she also served as chief medical resident. Dr. Thomas received specialized post-doctoral fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons through a NIH Clinical Research Fellowship.
Dr. Thomas is an experienced researcher, educator and clinician. She previously served as an attending physician at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center. A clinical research endocrinologist, Dr. Thomas has been principal investigator and sub-investigator on several studies and substudies including the Women's Health Initiative and the Diabetes Prevention Program. Dr. Thomas was also previously laboratory director for the MedStar Clinical Research Center and the medical director of the Capitol Breast Care Center, both in Washington, D.C. Dr. Thomas has published broadly on topics related to diabetes, metabolism and nutrition. She is a fellow of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and has served as an editorial reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology, Clinical Geriatrics, and American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism. She is actively involved in the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and serves on the Public Relations and Nutrition Committees.
