Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry provides comprehensive inpatient consultative and oral health care for the medically compromised patient. In addition, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons treat traumatized patients in the Emergency Department for dental, oral, jaw and facial skeletal injuries.

The Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons of the Department hospitalize patients to correct skeletal jaw deformities, treat facial infections, remove cysts and tumors, reconstruct oral and jaw defects and perform jaw joint (TMJ) surgery. The General Dental and Pediatric members of the department treat patients, usually in ambulatory surgery, by providing comprehensive dental care that includes prophylaxis (cleaning), fillings, crowns and root canals. Pediatric Dentistry also provides care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Local, intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia choices are available to dental patients.

Divisions within the department include General and Family Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Endodontics, Orthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Several members of the Department have a special interest in Geriatic Dentistry and a mobile dental unit is available.
