Lymphedema

Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part, most often an extremity, due to damage of the lymphatic system. This may occur following surgery, traumatic injury, radiotherapy, or long standing venous insufficiency.

The CIR offers a Certified Lymphedema Physical Therapist. The treatment utilizes Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), which includes manual lymph drainage, short stretch compression bandaging, remedial exercises, and self-care training. The overall goal is to reduce the increase in limb volume, prevent infections and improve overall quality of life.
